Feel Good About Your Relationship
I do a lot of work with couples, gay and straight, who aren’t getting along as well as they once did but are committed to trying to make their relationship work. Whether you’re looking for marriage counseling or couples counseling, the work is the same.
Often the couples who seek treatment are either arguing often or have become very distant from each other. One of the things they have in common is that both want to feel good about their relationship again. They want to feel the love, and often times, the humor they once shared.
It might feel impossible now, but you both can feel better. This is how I work with couples:
- Both of you are encouraged to air your grievances
- We’ll explore how you each feel about what is going on
- We’ll find ways for you to communicate more openly and calmly
- You’ll learn how to solve problems together
- You’ll learn how to really understand what your partner is thinking and feeling
- Sometimes I’ll give you exercises to help
Although it may surprise you, many couples are successfully able to reconnect as we go through the above steps. There must be a desire from both of you, however, to try to make your relationship work. While I can’t guarantee that you will get back to the relationship you once enjoyed, I can tell you that the process outlined above has been successful for many of my patients.
When we came to Terri, we were fighting all of the time. Although it was very painful at first, eventually things got better. We’re happy to say that not only are we still together, but we know how to work through the rough spots and get back on track more quickly when problems do arise. Through our work with Terri we’re happier than we’ve been in a long time. We can’t recommend her highly enough.
